Going to NYC for a quick city holiday and you’re not sure what to see? Here is a small but helpful guide on what to do and check out in NYC.
Stop 1…
Brooklyn Bridge - I think it’s one of the most popular places in the busy city of New York, joining Brooklyn and Manhattan with one of the most beautiful views on the whole city. If you want to see how the city wakes up it’s a good spot to go in the very early morning. Take pictures and see how the city transitions from morning calmness to midday madness!
Stop 2…
World Trade Center Plaza and Memorial Museum - for street artists, the first place is a beautiful spot with colourful grafitti arts in the place of the building site of 2 World Trade. Not far behind you can spot the 9/11 WTC Memorial and Museum. Even though I believe it’s a good place to go and learn some first hand history, be prepared for a 10 km queue and quite expensive tickets (between 40-50$)!!!! I had to say no to visiting unfortunatelly. Next time I’ll be visiting NYC I’ll be more prepared for the entrance prizes :)
Stop 3…
Central Park - perfect place to gain a bit of peacfulness while running around the crazy city. If you think you’ll walk through the whole of central park in one day you’re more than mistaken. It’s like a green city in a city. Even though I’m not the biggest fan of parks in the cities (because of the view on all of the skyscrapers) it has something magical in it. But let’s face the reality, you can’t visit New York without seeing at least a tiny bit of Central Park. Afterall it’s like all of the childhood movies come to life!

Stop 4… Roosvelt’s Island - me and my friend decided to take a little detour and ended up going here. It was a last minute unexpected destination while in NYC but it turned out to be extrlemly worth it. First because we decided to take a cable car to get there… imagine taking a cable car and seeing all of the skyscrapers not even from up above cause they are all so big! :D Even though we didn’t walk around the Island too much, it was a great city view place. Totally worth it and cheap to get to.

Stop 5… Times Square - could say that it’s one of the „controversial” spots in NYC? Mostly because it’s one of NYC’s main signs that make you believe that you’re in NYC, although it’s not a must; apart from the big square in where you can find billions of different shops, large screens, naked protesters, sometimes spot a famous person giving an interview, there is not much to see. I managed to see Times Square during the day and the night. If I have to recommend, definitely see it during the night! There is this crazy atmosphere that you can’t explain. Once you go, you’ll understand what I meant.
Stop 6…
Staten Island - traveling „budget” sometimes means sacrifising main attractions. In this case I can admit that I decided to sacrifise seeing the statue of liberty from the nearest possible way. That doesnlt mean that I didn’t see it at all (infact it’s hard to miss). For those who’d like to be close to it but not too close, I recommend taking a cheap ferry going through the Hudson river (buy a two-way ticket to have a double chance of seeing it ;)). It will save you quite a lot of money, but also give you an awesome city view from the middle of Hudson river.
Stop 7…
Flatiron Building and view of the Empire State Building - have you ever seen a triangle building giving the illusion of the flattiest building in the world? :O NO? You have to see the flatiron building in this case. It’s quite a good spot as just on the opposite side you have one of the best views on the famous Empire State Building. For those who have time, its awesome to check out the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building to see the cities view. Again, remember the prices to prevent your jaw from dropping when you arrive there. (around 50$).
Stop 8… Wall Street - the bussiest stock market street in Lower Manhattan. Luckily when I was there it wasn’t as crazy as usual (free day). But going during a normal working day through the streets = madness. It’s also one of the most „posh” NYC districts, though I’m not sure if there is anything not „posh” in Manhattan.
Stop 9… (FINAL STOP! - ‚stops’) SoHo, Greenwich, China Town, Little Italy, Dumbo and many many more districts of NYC. Those are the ones that I remembered the most (apart from the central NYC district) from the whole city. All have their own unique vibe and architecture: SoHo (luxurius, colourful district full of rich and unique shops), Greenwich (green and LGBT friendly district), China Town (full of everything Asian! Plenty of amazing Asian restaurants topped with Chinese statues/monuments) or Little Italy (those PIZZERIAS!).
Hard to pick which one I like the most, I’ll share some photos and you can guess which comes from what district. A test to see how much you remember ;)
